Melanie Fannin is a senior advisor with Hawksbill Group, bringing her extensive experience as general counsel in the telecommunications industry. During her 25 year career, Melanie served in senior legal and executive regulatory and government affairs positions at the state and federal level.
Melanie’s strengths derive from her experience in the strategic planning and implementation of numerous marketing and sales strategies, contract and labor negotiations, regulatory and legislative proposals and crisis communications. Her wide-ranging experience gives Melanie a unique ability to see the “big picture” and offer solutions to potential issues across an array of topics.
Melanie began her career at Southwestern Bell as an attorney responsible for litigation and labor arbitrations. She subsequently supported clients in labor contracts and strike negotiations, state legislative programs, rate cases before the Texas Public Utility Commission and the FCC, as well as sales and marketing efforts as she advanced to senior leadership positions in the legal department. Melanie led the legal teams tasked with resolving and managing difficult employee and regulatory issues in several states leading to her appointment as President-Kansas for Southwestern Bell, an executive regulatory and public affairs position. Melanie successfully led a team that strategically designed and implemented regulatory and legislative programs culminating in groundbreaking changes in telecommunications regulation in Kansas. Similarly, Melanie was one of the senior executive leaders who successfully directed the effort on both the state and federal levels to obtain regulatory authority for Southwestern Bell Corporation to enter the long distance market. She retired as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Pacific Telesis Group.
Melanie earned her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University.
